The DeQuincy Railroad Museum Board of Directors
is saddened to announce the passing of Gary W. Cooper,
President of our Board and great volunteer in the City of
DeQuincy. Mr. Gary passed awayTuesday, January 9, 2016.
He was twice mayor of DeQuincy. In 1983, he initiated the
lighting of the 1923 Kansas City Southern Depot at Christmas
time, and appointed a DeQuincy Historical Preservation
Board which resulted in the restoration and acceptance of the
depot to the National Register of Historic Places. He sought
legislation to rename the DeQuincy Railroad Days Festival as
the Louisiana Railroad Days Festival, and at his suggestion,
the festival was moved to its present location on the grounds
of the DeQuincy Railroad Museum. He has served as the
President of the Board of Directors for the
DeQuincy Railroad Museum since 2008.
He will be greatly missedby all.
